Tasman’s Parkfest, $25,000 Monster Raffle Winners, Anglican Debutante Ball

Seymour Rural Fire Brigade

Congratulations to the Seymour Rural Fire Brigade on the opening of their new fire shed last Saturday 22 May 2021.

The shed has been a project in the making for many years and would not have been possible but for the dedication and perseverance of all members and by the significant act of generosity by local landholders Sandy and Angie Walker in donating the land to start with.

Rural Fire Fighter Recognition

Saturday morning 22 May 2021 also saw Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) recognise many local volunteer rural fire brigade members for exceptional service and dedication to the Hinchinbrook community.

These guys and gals in the yellow trucks and overalls have unselfishly accumulated a massive 464 years of combined service in protecting our community and all that we hold dear and for that we acknowledge, thank and commend you all.

Medal and Citation - Diligent and Ethical Service Medal (DESM) awarded to Vince Balanzategui, Steven Condon, Hazel Exelby, Lex Exelby, Salvatore (Sam) Torrisi, Frank White and Allen White.

Medal and Citation - QFES Medal awarded to Ricky Boscato, Chris Butler, Steve Leonelli, Robert Lyon, Robert Morris, Stephen Nowak, David Seri, Wally Skinner, Rhonda Skinner, Karen Balanzategui, Kellie Bona and Tom Gosney.

Anglican Debutante Ball

A beautiful night was had by all at the Anglican Debutante Ball on Saturday 15 May 2021. The Debs were stunning and most gracious on the occasion. Presentation and surroundings were quite close to perfection due to the hard working Anglican Ball Committee. Well done President Cassie and your team. I have no doubt your hard work has made a very lasting impression on our Debs.

Upper Stone Country Women’s Association

Fantastic news coming from the Upper Stone Country Women’s Association committee this week. Readers will recall that due to dwindling membership and attendance at meetings, a planning meeting to discuss future direction was held. The future is rosy with many new attendees at the meeting and membership renewal at 25. Great news. Keep it up girls, your contribution to the wellbeing of Upper Stone and our Hinchinbrook community is much appreciated.

Tasman’s Parkfest

This year Tasman’s Parkfest was an expansion of the well loved Tasman Turtle’s Picnic Day, there was fun activities for all to enjoy. The Shire’s community spirit and connectivity was evident as the return of Tasman Turtle attracted approximately 3,000 attendees.

For those who missed the event it started off with the TYTO parkrun, then participants competed in the best time trial competition at the official opening of the Adventure Playground. When the picnic zone opened families enjoyed the games, rides, activities, performances and delicious foods that were on offer. Everyone then danced the night away to Bluewings Band and Zachariah.

Council would like to thank the bands, entertainers, stall holders, community groups, volunteers and all those involved in making the event possible and a wonderful day for the community.

Tasman’s Parkfest was a joint initiative of Hinchinbrook Shire Council and the Queensland Government.

$25,000 Monster Raffle Winners

Council would like to congratulate the following prize winners of the $25,000 Monster Raffle which were announced at Tasman’s Parkfest. The first place prize went to Mark Tomba who supported Ingham Sportspower. The second place prize was awarded to Carole Groundwater who supported Barnes Sewing Centre. Finally, the third place winner was Cherie Glasgow who supported Ingham Garden and Gifts. The estimated economic spend from the initiative was over $3.2 million with over 13,000 entries received. 

Thank you to all of those who participated in the $25,000 Monster Raffle and supported our local businesses. Council would also like to thank the participating businesses who made this initiative possible.
